What makes Pottery Pirate Desk Buddies unique?
Every single Desk Buddy is hand-cast, hand-painted, and kiln-fired in small batches right in our Kelleys Island studio. Because human hands (and not mass-production machinery) craft every piece, no two Desk Buddies are ever identical—each has its own unique character, glaze variations, and personality!
How are the studio pieces made?
The Captain designs original plaster molds, pours liquid clay slip, trims each piece, hand-paints individual details, dips them in glaze, and fires them in Cinderbeard the Smaug Kiln at temperatures exceeding 2,000°F.
Are Desk Buddies durable?
Yes! Once they survive the fiery belly of Cinderbeard, they are high-fired ceramic pieces finished with a durable glass glaze. However, like all fine ceramics, they are breakable if dropped onto hard surfaces—so handle your crew mates with care!

Are the Talavera ceramics made in the studio?
No. We proudly source and curate 100% authentic Mexican Talavera folk art directly from skilled artisans. While the Captain attempted to paint Talavera once (under Pigsly’s intense supervision), we quickly recognized that authentic Talavera is a centuries-old art form belonging to Mexican master craftspeople. We are honored to curate these genuine pieces alongside our original studio work.
📦 Shipping & Drop Information
How do "Drop Releases" work?
Because our original studio ceramics are made in small, handcrafted batches, inventory is limited. When a new batch of Desk Buddies or studio pieces comes out of Cinderbeard the Kiln, we release them in scheduled drops. Once a specific design sells out, it won't be available again until the next firing!
How long will it take for my order to ship?

How do you package ceramic items safely?
We pack every order with heavy-duty padding to make sure your ceramic crew mates survive the journey to your doorstep. Every box also includes a little piece of Pottery Pirate studio lore!

Who is Pigsly?
Pigsly is our Official Studio Supervisor and Quality Control Officer. Pigsly inspects finished Desk Buddies, tests studio cushion comfort, and enforces mandatory nap times.
What is Cinderbeard?
Cinderbeard is our high-fire studio kiln! Named after the legendary dragon, Cinderbeard is the fiery furnace where raw liquid clay slip transforms into finished ceramic art.
📩 Customer Support
What if my item arrives damaged?
If the high seas were rough and your package arrives damaged, please send a photo of the damaged piece and box to us within 48 hours of delivery, and we will make it right!
